Vienna Food

More stories about Vienna. This time around it is about where we have eaten. As you know - we are a gluten free home, so we are very careful about eating out. Luckily, Vienna and Austria in general, are pretty easy to navigate. Being part of the EU they are required to post the top allergens on the menus. That is a start and good in general. The second factor is the cross contamination. The restaurants below are either completely GF or they prepare the kitchen to keep the workspaces clear. In either case, the restaurants listed below have not made anyone sick in the house and ones we have repeatedly gone to or would go again.
- Gasthaus Zum Wohl: entirely gluten free, we have gone several times of the years and they serve traditional Austrian foods.
- Gasthaus Nestroy: Traditional Austrian food - a favorite .
- NENI: amazing in the Naschmarkt! (Btw - they also opened a restaurant in Zürich).
- Lin's Dumplings: Quick take out when in the 7th district
- Vevi: Several locations - so good.
- Beim Czaak: Traditional Austrian and good food: We were there last time and really enjoyed it. Family run and great art work on the walls! (I am not a meat eater - but EVERYONE that eats meat LOVES their chicken in a basket or schnitzel)
Desserts:
- Veganista - best ice cream ever and all vegan. - allergens listed - and they have GF cones
- Cafe Landtmann: Fancy treat, people watching and in the center of it.
- Cafe Museum: Now owned by the same group that owns Cafe Landtmann, so you can get the same quality coffee and treats.
Naschmarkt: How can you not stroll the Naschmarkt? Lots of specialties to eat there or cook at home.
Brunnenmarkt: We are embarrassed to say we did not visit the Brunnenmarkt until a few years ago. But it is our favorite now. We tend to spend our time now in the the 16/17th district this is our "go-to" for cooking at home, talking with farmers or just sitting and having a cup of coffee on the Yppenplatz.
