Toothpaste
toothpaste - Die Zahnpasta
Perhaps this is too much information - but a few years ago a dentist figured out I was allergic to the "SLS" often found in toothpaste. So between my SLS and the gluten issue in the house - toothpaste has not been an easy thing to find that all of us can use (and like). Who knew toothpaste would be such an issue?
In the US we used two brands - my favorite was the Natural Dentist. When we packed up and headed to Switzerland - I had enough for a month - leaving enough time to find another brand. Well, we looked in the regular grocery store and regular drug stores and no luck. Finally, we went to the the specialty pharmacy (Apotheke) and they gave me one without SLS. It was small and expensive, but I had a solution.
About two weeks ago - I realized I was beginning to have some of the same reactions. I am assuming the toothpaste we had did not have SLS but something that compares. (Like MSG and Yeast Extract - they say it is not the same - but I for one have had the same reaction).
We will keep looking (in the meantime - poor Stephan gets my toothpastes that don't work). However, we resolved the problem temporarily with the help a friend. Big thanks goes to my dear friend who in between her family visits (kids and parent) found a way to send me enough toothpaste to hold me over until I find a solution or I call out to another friend. However, the best part of the package - was the note inside. Even adults get homesick and a little love from NC made me much happier today.
I thank her and my teeth do too!
