Der Kanton  - Canton/State

There are 26 cantons in Switzerland. Last week, Stephan and I went to a new canton (for us). We visited the town of St. Gallen, which is in the canton of St. Gallen. Lovely, stroll and lunch in the town center.

One thing we did visit while there was the Abbey Library of St. Gall. This library located in a monastery is the oldest library in Switzerland. It is a World Heritage Site with nearly 160,000 volumes. As we glided in the slippers provided through the library - we enjoyed the all the little details from the inlay of the wooden floors, to the cherubs that representing different professions. Little fun fact - only one looks up - and his profession: Astronomer.
