Sing with Me
Folk Songs - Das Volkslieder
As part of the school where I am learning German in Vienna- they offer additional opportunities. They range from walking tours to additional class time. My friend in class that has been a teacher of languages, suggested the singing class. She said it would be good for pronunciation. I figured - why not?
I cannot remember the last time I sang in front of people, but I figured, I would try. So I joined my friend. The teacher is a sweet older, hippie lady. I love it. She brings her guitar. The challenge is - the course was suggested for my level but the others that attend are much higher levels of German. So, it keeps me on my toes. But, as mentioned, the teacher is so sweet and makes sure I understand the stories behind the songs.
The songs are all folk songs which I loved in the US. I have been to many folks festivals. She choice three topics: love, nature and revolution. My three favorite topics! After the first class I told Stephan about it - and he said- he remembered learning the song in Kindergarten.
My singing class is over this week and my German immersion is wrapping up. I took the written test on Tuesday and the spoken test Wednesday. I did pass and now ready to take the next step. I do need to work on a few areas in the month of August - but happy with the progress. Slow and steady.
Now that class is over. - I will take a deep breath - enjoy the city for another week. During August I will continue to work on what needed work from this level and then work toward the next step in September.
