Musuem Tour - Wien

Albertina - Xenia Hausner exhibit

While in Vienna this summer, there was a special summer deal- 7 museums for 19 Euros. And so, I was able to visit six. It felt like a whirlwind tour but I did it.

One Sunday when my friend, Birgit from Zurich joined us for a long weekend, we visited the Albertina and the Mak. Both were really great! The Albertina is one of my favorites. They have such a range of artists. This was my first time at the Mak and the special exhibit of the Women of the Wiener Werkstätte was fabulous!

One day, Miriam and I went into the Technisches Museum of Wien. It was a rainy afternoon so it was probably not the best time to visit as it was filled with lots of young minds roaming around. Since it was a very hands on museum we decided it was best to look at one section, touch nothing and leave. (We are still a bit apprehensive due to COVID). We decided, perhaps another time first thing in the morning would be better.

I was near the MuseumsQuartier waiting for the girls to meet me for lunch one day. and realized I had enough time to visit the MUMOK. For those that like Modern Art - the building and the art are perfect combinations. I spotted a few artists I knew: Stella, Picasso and Warhol while walking through the exhibits. Most I did not know, as modern art is one I am learning.

Before heading out of town, I was lucky enough to spend a morning with my friend, Laura at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. We explored the different exhibits and the long history. This museum is too large to finish in a morning, but glad I finally made it there.

The final museum of this time in Vienna was Belvedere Castle. My friend Rebeca is in Vienna. We had a couple days of overlap and we took advantage of that, by having a glass of wine together and a trip to see Klimt's most famous painting, "the Kiss." I forgot what a great collection of Klimt and Schiele (amongst others) was in Belvedere's possession.

The 19Euro deal is only this year, but I would recommend the Bundesmuseencard for anyone in the future. I am so happy I was able to see some of the exhibits that I've enjoyed in the past, as well as the new ones. Reminded me that if you can, support the arts and visit museums.
