Lucerne

Train - Der Zug

We moved to Chapel Hill just a few weeks before Miriam was born. Klara was a busy three year old. We decided to put Klara in preschool shortly after arriving. New baby, new town, new preschool and new mode of transportation (no more NYC subways) meant that it was very unlikely I was going to find my way home those first few drop offs. Eventually, I was able to find my way and even had time in between drop off and pick up to talk to people.  The year Klara started preschool - I was fortunate to talk to some of the other parents and make friends. Some of which, I still talk to today. One friend from that time, moved to the Isle of Man a few years ago. We have kept in touch through social media and some Skype sessions.

In July, Miriam and I was able to spend time with my friend and her family, while they were passing through. They were staying in Lucerne, so Miriam and I hopped on a train and less than an hour later we were walking out of the Lucerne train station.   After some big hugs we strolled through the entire charming old city. We took a boat cruise along Lake Lucerne and walked through the lovely Chapel Bridge. Construction of this bridge began in the 1300's. The streets were lined with fresh produce and flower sellers. And the stores were filled with chocolate. After a full day of walking, talking and eating Miriam and I caught the train back to Zürich.  Spending the day with Chapel Hill Expats was exactly what we needed and we can't wait until the next time. (Hint, hint)
