Lot of Baking at Home
to bake - backen
We are doing most of our cooking and baking at home. Costs are high to eat out, which in a way is a happy change. In the states, I admit - it was very easy to just eat out or bring pre-made in. However, here the cost to eat out is much more, so we tend to eat home for most meals. What we have found is that we appreciate eating out a bit more. We also have been cooking a lot of new dishes, which has been making eating at home more exciting as well. The other factor, eating gluten free out is limited, particularly for the vegetarians in the house.
In addition to cooking dinner -we have been working on a few desserts. I wrote about the apple strudel I have officially mastered (I am even going to teach a class at the end of the month on it for a fundraiser!) So, this week I have been staring at the chestnut flour I bought in Italy and trying to decide what to do with it! Tonight, I treated everyone to donuts!
I based it on this recipe, with a different topping. For friends in NC - I know last year Weaver Street Market was selling chestnut flour. Check it out!
