Lost Bunny
Bunny - der Hase
Years ago, Miriam had a "lovey" named Bunny Bee. This bunny went everywhere with her. And like most kids there is a moment in time, the switch from taking the friend on every adventure - to leaving it at home. For Miriam it happened one rainy night in 2007. We pulled into our driveway from a trip to Southern Village Weaver Street Market (Chapel Hill friends know this location) and realized Bunny Bee was missing. We looked frantically. I called Weaver Street and explained the situation. The manager on call looked throughout the store to no avail.
Imagining sleepless nights, we got back in the car and headed to Southern Village to continue the search. It was a rainy dark night and there was no pink bunny in sight. I walked to the store to see if by chance someone had given the bunny to the front desk. And hanging in the window was a big sign: "Lost Pink Bunny Blanket."
Giving up, I headed back to the car - and on the street I spotted garbage. I decided to grab it and throw it out. As I went to bend down - I realized it was Bunny Bee!
A trip through the wash cycle and she was good as new. Well, as new as a well-loved bunny could be...
Recently, Miriam was cleaning up her room and decided to go through some of her memory boxes. She came across the flyer that was posted in the window of Weaver Street. The story of Bunny Bee's night in the rain has come up in conversation many times.
I happened to have a frame we weren't using and tried it out. As you can see above - it fits - so all I need to do is take it out and get some of the wrinkles out.
It is funny how certain things bring a flood of memories. In this case a simple piece of paper brought us all back to Chapel Hill and to my folks. I think the biggest reason - we always look back for photos of Bunny Bee from that time. And it brings us back to our favorite photo of the girls (and Bunny Bee) with my folks. So much so, that a dear friend made each of the girls a pillow before we left for Switzerland.
