Liechtenstein

The End - das Ende

The final leg of Birgit and my getaway was Liechtenstein. This tiny state is located between Austria and Switzerland. It is a constitutional monarchy and run by the Prince.  Liechtenstein has a population of under 40,000 and about 6o square miles and much of it is intertwined in Switzerland. There are open borders, currency is the Swiss franc and more.

In any case, it was my first time and I was excited to see it.  We headed to Vaduz, the capital for a late lunch. Then I set the map to the castle. Unfortunately, I set it to the private residence of the Prince. It is a pretty spectacular castle - but not one we could get too close. So we looked from a distance and set course to the one where visitors are welcome. Unfortunately, that was closed but it was still a lovely walk and view.

The only thing we missed was the art museum. I have heard it is a must see - but it was too late in the day and it was time to head home.
