Grape Juice
Juice - Der Saft
We do our best to buy from the local region. I have stopped buying fruit out of season. At first I missed it but now it has become easier. It just feels like the next step in our journey to walk lighter on the planet. I know there are still many more steps.
Passover begins and working on getting everything ready. I do admit we got three things for the table not from the region. Kedem grape juice because it brings a flood of memories to mind of my folks. I remember the time they and friends, Lee and Jerry drove to the vineyards and did a taste test to get Kosher wine. Possibly the only year we had Kosher wine (or for those that sat at my mom's seder any wine). Since Stephan and I began hosting Seders it has always had a variety of wine and juices, not always Kedem. I remember the tables full of friends and family whether it was when my mom hosted it when I was young, when we hosted it together or when we joined community ones, like at JRC.
This past week, while in the local Jewish grocery store, I treated us to a bottle of grape juice and pickles! I ordered the gluten free Matzah from Geneva. Other than that - the seder will be locally derived. There will be five of us - not like the big ones in the past - but it is a step toward normalcy. And the pickles are important. I find it really hard to find good sour pickles. Tons of sweet ones - but I miss the Kosher Dill... The ones I picked up at Kosher City are good and will do. (With that said, we just came across a local company that we will try). And for the locals - there is a good option at the Oerlikon Saturday - but it is most Saturdays so not sure about this week.
For now, I am off to the kitchen to continue preparation.
