Interlaken

three - drei

Three-day weekend for Miriam this past weekend. Monday was a holiday just for Zürich. For most it was a 1/2 day but M had the full day off. The holiday is called Knabenschiessen. The translation is basically, "Boys Shooting". This is one of the oldest holidays in Zürich. Started as a far back as the 17th century it is festival for a boys shooting competition, girls joined in 1991. (Since then there have been 10 girls that have won, including last year). The competitors use Army rifles and head to the range on the Üetliberg.  (the local mountain for Zürich). Normally, there are festivals and entertainment. Due to the pandemic all activities are canceled.

We decided this was a good weekend to take a quick trip.

The three of us (Klara is still happily doing her thing in Vienna) headed out of town. We spent Saturday and Sunday in Interlaken.  Interlaken is a Swiss resort town surrounded by spectacular mountains and turquoise blue waters. It is in the Jungfrau region so the mountains and glaciers make for an amazing backdrop.

Saturday we walked around the town and then headed to Harder Kulm.  This is a mountain. It is 1,321 meters high. We took the Harderbahn up the mountain. Follow the link for a moment on the bahn.  From there we looked at the amazing view and then continued on for a little hike.

After the trip up the mountain and the hike, we continued our exploration of Interlaken. Here is a fun fact - Many Bollywood movies are filmed here. So many so that the famous Bollywood Director Yash Chopra has a statue, recognizing his skill and the fact that so many scenes were filmed in this region, it has helped bring tourists from India.

We had the best gluten free Italian food from Pizzeria Horn. After a long day of hiking and walking - we took dinner to the room with our shoes off!
