Geneva
Geneve - Geneva

A spur of a moment train ride lead us to Geneva for the weekend. It was a rainy weekend, but a nice change of scenery. We stayed at a very nice hotel walking distance to the train station. It was in a very diverse neighborhood filled with all different types of food. (Our favorite restaurants were Little Ethiopia , Bombay and El Catrin).

We spent most of our trip walking the old town. We crossed the bridge and visited the Christmas market, walked the main shopping street and up the hill to the old town.

One day, we hopped on public transport to the UN and the Red Cross Museum. The Broken Chair is a symbol of the despair and dignity of armed violence victims.

The Red Cross Museum was the good surprise of the trip. I didn't anticipate just how powerful an experience it would be. The Red Cross was founded by a Swiss man named Henry Dunant after witnessing the horrors of war from the battle of Soferino in 1859. Fast forward and it is helping around the world to this day. The museum told the history of the Red Cross, as well, it told the stories of witnesses.
One room was filled with items that prisoners of war made while in prison. Here are several examples that say so much.

We know there was much more to see and do in Geneva and the surrounding area - but we were quite satisfied with our little trip. Until next time, Geneva!
