Foggy Hike
foggy - nebelig
The season is changing rapidly and feeling more like winter than fall. I am not going to lie, I was tempted to wear my winter coat the other day. In general, I feel like we are skipping fall - or at least the fall I am used to in North Carolina. Saturday, our normal castle buddy routine shifted a little. The teens stayed home and the moms hiked the Uetliberg.
As mentioned in a previous post, the Uetliberg is our local mountain. You can see, hike, enter and be near it at different parts of the city and towns nearby. I usually take the tram from my house and take it to the end stop and walk up from the city entrance.
Listen to some of the cows we saw and heard on the walk. My friend told me that traditionally young Swiss (farm) boys were given cow bells for their birthday while growing up. Each bell was made to compliment the sound of the previous gifts. Then when they were grown and had a farm of their own, they would use their bells for their own cows.
So on Saturday, I met my friend at the main train station and we took a train directly to the city side of the mountain. The train takes you directly to the top, with just a few minutes to walk.
After reaching the typical top goal (after about 5 minutes) we turned right instead of my usual left. This took us on a nice hike to the Felsenegg. As we walked, the morning fog burned off - mostly. But it was quite spectacular to be hiking on top of the mountain and get to one of the lookout points and only see grey. Eventually, we saw some views.
The air was so crisp, that when we got to the Felsenegg cable car we chose to continue to hike down the mountain to the Adliswil train station. It was a perfect half a day with a good friend.
