Bittersweet Adventure

bittersweet - bittersüß

The Altmueller household has some bittersweet news to share. Normally, I start with the bitter to get it over - but this time I will share the sweet first.

Stephan has accepted a new position with Google. We are all thrilled for him and look forward to seeing him continue to grow and work hard. He officially began the first week in May at the Zurich, Switzerland office. Yes, you read correctly - Switzerland. This is a bit of a shock to us - though for some that know us - you have been predicting something like this - perhaps - even before us.

One of the things I always said about my parents, “they never wondered - what if.”
This is one of those moments where we would spend the rest of our lives wondering “what if.”

As you can imagine - we are excited, happy, sad, anxious, overwhelmed and every emotion in between. Together Stephan and I have made Carrboro/Chapel Hill our home for the past nearly 14 years. (and before 8 years together in NYC) Carrboro/Chapel Hill is where we raised our girls, been through health challenges, deaths, loses, successes, celebrations and more.  We have gained a family of friends.

For now - we are going to be seeking friendly dinners, coffees, walks and willingness to see us with an excited smile, bewilderment in our eyes and sunglasses to try and hide our tears...
