Beaver vs the Tree
Beaver - der Biber

At least every Saturday and Sunday, some mix of us will walk along the stream near our apartment. We have been fortunate enough to see lots of birds. And on one occasion the neighborhood beaver. This little one has been very busy over the course of the time we have lived here to nibble away many of the trees along the water banks. I am assuming, people started to get concerned and the city wildlife management agency had to step in. Turns out this little fellow is protected and in return they protect the trees that should not be nibbled on. The rest are up for grabs and let me tell you - he finds all of the free trees. And if his nibbled trees are too weak- the wildlife agency steps in and cuts it down for the safety of all involved. I have to admit - I love that one little creature gets so much attention. I also am astonished at the pace of the trees being gnawed.
I tried to take photos of the beaver the day we saw him in the rain. He was too quick and slide down the banks into his house when he saw too many of his admiring fans. I leave you with some of his handy work and neighbors.
