Wedding Anniversary - Der Hochzeitstag

Stephan and I have been married - a few times...

First we had a private ceremony with only about 12 people in my parents backyard in front of a judge. Later that evening we were married with family and friends in Florida, where my parents lived at the time. Shortly after we were married, Stephan had to return to Austria to finish his degree. So our first four months of marriage we were mostly apart. As well, the five months prior. Lots of hand written letters, emails, phone calls and lonely moments.

Four months after our wedding in Florida, I threw my dress, shoes and passport in my backpack and got on a plane to meet him on his side of the world to return to New York together. Yes, I carried my dress in my backpack. For those who know me - know I would never have picked a dress that would need to be ironed.  

One lovely day in Salzburg we got married in front of his family and friends. The ceremony and celebration were held in Stephan's hometown and at his parents home. The celebration continued at the Schloss Fuschl. The day was filled with music, tradition and love.

Today marks 22 years since that day. Good, bad, happy, sad and everything in between.   That is what love is....
